Sundays are for Rest
Most Sunday nights, after the house is quiet I had fallen into the habit of attempting to get my brain back into work mode. Since beginning to write again, I have fallen out of this habit. My focus shifted to squeezing out as much relaxation and enjoyment from the weekend as possible. That is not to say that I am staying out past a decent bedtime. It means learning the signals from my body and getting the rest it needs to be the most prepared for the upcoming work.
On Sunday nights there are new strict rules I place on myself. They are, not thinking about work that needs to be done during the week. Not checking emails and messages that came in late on Friday or over the weekend. I removed the chat and email apps from my phone to remove the temptation. I am not working on side projects, this blog, or any little home project.
My new mindset is, that just because you have time to work on something does not mean you have to use that time for work or to be productive. Since making this small behavior change I have found that weekends are much more enjoyable. Monday mornings are much less stressful, as I have not already set expectations for the day from Sunday night. Instead of using my time to think about all the Monday activities, I now start my Monday on my drive to work, using the alone time to think of all the things that the day could offer. Gaining clarity on the important activities before I hit my keyboard to log in. Once logged in my head and body are in the right place to be productive.
